Is there more than one type of EZ pass for the thruway? I know it costs to get one, so do you really save money or is it just more convienent to have one?

Carol,
Check this out. NYS offers an EZ-pass for Motorhomes where you will pay passenger car rates. If you tow a car, you need to stop at the normal booth, tell them you're towing a car. They punch some buttons, and you're on your way. You pay for 2 cars.
If you're not towing, you can use the EZ-pass lanes.
To register you need to send NYS a copy of your registration. You can find the appropriate info on the EZ-pass website.
And yes, it's a significant discount over not having the EZ-pass.

That's what the couple next to us just told Chuck. Would love to save money "somewhere."
Will check into it as soon as we get home. Leaving here tomorrow.

I have used mine thruout several states. Its a lot easier keeping records of spendatures on the road,no more digging in pockets at toll booths and also tends to be quicker passage thru toll booth.

Does the 2 car rate apply to a NH EZ Pass used in NYS or is it only for EZ Passes bought in NYS?

Those tolls really add up. We figured from VT to NC we paid about $80 in tolls each way. I suppose you could choose a no-toll route but with the price of gas, if the route is longer, you still pay.

We don't normally use toll roads. This trip we're using the PA turnpike. Saves time. We try harder to stay off the NYS Thruway.
Will have to check out the EZ pass. Have to use the thruway Wed. when we take the MH to the dealers.

You'll also save some fuel using the PA pike. The grades are less than any other route. Instead of going over those mountains, you'll go through them.
Coming from Breezewood I usually take I-99, 22, 422 and 28 to my home but 2 weeks ago I decided to stay on the PA pike to Pittsburgh. Even though the toll was ~$12 I saved some gas over the hillier route. At $3.50+ a gallon you may save enough to cover most or all of the tolls.

I have 2 E-Z Pass transponders; 1 for just the motorhome and the second one for when I tow. The transponder that I'm not using I keep in the shielded envelope that they provide. It's a lot easier and quicker than having to pay each time! I've been using E-Z Pass for about 10 years and have had no problems!

After calling several times and getting differant answers on a couple questions,I just leave the permanent transponder on the MH and wrap the toad in silver. I have been charged differant rates at the same location, but always in my favor. They should try to be a little more universal.

I have one E-Z Pass I got in NH. I move it fom Car, Truck, MH. I also have a Sun-Pass. I have all licence Plates registered with them and have never had trouble when towing or not. Just have the one in the MH when towing none in toad. Get one register your vehicles and go for it. Let them worry about it. When I got mine I tired to make it to complated, its not they will not miss charging you for sure. I would not worry about the discount, I like wissssssing right through.

For what it's worth they are raising the rates on the New York Thruway. Those with EZ Pass will have a higher rate increase than cash customers. This info is from the Albany,NY Fox TV station.
