I am writing this to those of you who know that mid part of NY that is the Adirondak Park. All the routing software tells us to go down to I90 and over and then up to Henderson. The most direct route would be across that middle portion through maybe Altamont and Clifton. How would the roads be in that area. Can anyone help?

Lynn,

I would suggest Rt. 3 right to the front door of the CG. Our son and his family live in the high peaks (Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake area) and we have run it often for the past 20 years.

The fist leg form your home to 87 is up to you. Once on 87 you can:

get on 3 in Plattsburgh:

or from 9N at exit 34 in Ausable Chasm then 73 to Saranac Lake then 3 to the CG

or 73 at exit 30, (just west of Port Henry) to Saranac Lake then 3 to the CG

You could use Rt.11 at exit 42 near the Canadian boarder picking up 3 in Watertown

Clearly the 87 to 90 to 12 in Utica or 81 in Syracuse makes it a very long trip but that has many possibilities too. You could spend the first night at Doris and Gil's bring them with you for the second at Turning Stone the third at our house, we'll get Brett and Andrea to join us, then all four of us could make the 2 hour run up to the Island together.

George,
Great, will have to work out the exact time probably 8:30 / 9:00 the morning of the 17th.
There is a very good truck diner at exit 33, Parish. We often stop there for breakfast, in fact about 5 rigs stopped there on the way down the last time we were at the island. We will be getting on at Rt. 31, (entrance 30) north of Syr. and there is a rest area a mile or so north of that where we could meet.

We were planning on getting there the 16th, but now we are thinking of stopping at Turning Stone that night and pulling in the 17th. Unless he decides to go further that day, Tom and Carol will be in our driveway the night of the 17th.
I think a rally (or breakfast) on the way to the rally would be great LOL!

Mike, are you and Lynda and Brett and Andrea up for the boat cruise?

Doris,
We have been on the cruise a couple of times so we'll probably go fishing, every time we've been at the Island there are a lot of people fishing on the causeway, thought we'd give it a shot. Not sure about Brett and Andrea.

TO ANYONE, wanting to make a layover on the way, we have room for several rigs, no sewer hook ups but it is level, grass with a fire pit and we could make water and some power to recharge batteries available.

We are about 40 minutes west of Turning Stone and would be happy to meet anyone interested, at the Thruway (90) or 81 exits and lead you in.

It's about 2 / 2.5 hours plus stop for breakfast via 31 and 81 to the Island from here.

Let us know, may as well get started a day early.

Yes, a NY fishing license would be required. It is fresh water, with species common to Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, perch, sunfish, bass, pike and maybe a musky if you're real lucky. I'm not sure about saltwater equipment, but the rod and reels should work. Hooks, lures, bait and license can be picked up at Wally World and there is a well stock one not far from the CG.

So Doris is there room in your driveway for 2 rigs?? I think we will probably want to start out on Thursday night but I'm not sure we could get as far as Turning Stone. It really depends on how the work week looks for us. Going through the Adirondacks doesn't seem to save any time. It's 50 miles longer on 90 but faster.

No..however, I can ask my next door neighbor if he would mind if you backed into his driveway..and you guys can "visit" in my backyard, if you would like. He's a nice guy, and his own rig will be out of his driveway (he has a seasonal site elsewhere), and I'm positive he would get a kick out of it. We won't be home, and that's the only reason there would be room for Tom and Carol in our driveway. I'd have to know how tall your rig is..Tom fits under the nimo wires..I'd have to make sure you do If you bring an extension, you can plug in our backyard (neighbors house is back), as long as you both don't have your air on, you should be OK. There is also a Walmart with a large space in back of it, where no one parks (just cars for bus trips to the casino's) at Crossgate Commons that always has a few RV's..and it's right off the thruway at, I believe exit 24 of the thruway. It's actually more direct than our house and no backing up between houses to worry about. We seem to always luck out with no one parked on the street, whenever we come home, but if they are, you do have to back carefully. Heck, then you can meet up with others too. Oh, that's begining to sound like fun..I want to go to the pre rally!
I think we will be leaving on the 16th straight through to Association Island.

Hi Doris,
This sounds way too complicated. We will just find a campground along the way. We don't tend to do the Wal-Mart thing. We will just find a campground not far off the highway. Do you know of any? I'm thinking somewhere between Saratoga and Fulton. Last weekend we took that Rte 29 cutoff which workded quite well.
