Route into Secaucus NJ - this ok for 40'?

Quick route change to stay behind the meadowlands convention center.

Anyone familiar with the area see a problem with the route in the attached photos?

Don't take any side trips with the motorhome in that area you will be sorry. The area is not large rv friendly stay on the main highways. I assume you are going to liberty state park. If you want to sightsee use the toad

we were going to stay in liberty park, but the convention center told us we could park in their parking lot for the two nights we will be there. Plus liberty park was full!! ugh.

So the map looks like a quick shot up 95 with one exit into the meadowlands, which is surrounded by a large loop of a road to the back.

I figure if 18 wheelers can get in there, so can I. But I would love confirmation of issues like toll booths or low clearance if there are any.

Hi Jay & Andrea,

I used to live up there for many years, have not been back since 2012. However when I was up there I would take my 34' motorhome to Giants Stadium often to tailgate at Jets Games, with no problem at all! You should have no trouble at all with either route you have mentioned! But if it was me, I would just stay on I-95! As for treacherous all roads up there are kind of that way, due to way to many people and all are in a rush! With that being said hope you have a good & safe visit! Hope my 2 cents worth is of some help!

Stay on I-95, it is a straight shot, and the entrance to the Meadowlands from it is simple.

Good luck!

Ok, thanks! Will do. Lucky for us, meadowlands convention center has a HUGE parking lot across the street that we can sit in for the few days we will be there.

As Al says you should have no problems. Their is a lot of traffic in that area.
Try not to get caught in any rush hour traffic

thanks to all advice, made it in and out trouble free. Left Secaucus, headed up to 287, across the Tappen Zee bridge and was off.

VERY crowded area.

Jay & Andrea,

Goodness it seems like yesterday you were all the way down in TX. We were just up at Lake George recently and probably passed by you on 287.

If you are staying up North and have a chance, the Lake George RV park is one of the best locations we have stayed at to date. Really nice CG and is minutes from the lake and little town of Lake George.

We are back home in "South Jersey" but headed down to Louisiana in a few weeks.

Have fun and safe travels

Regarding taking Rte 3.....don't do it! It is a very heavily traveled road with narrow, twisting lanes, and the last time I was there, the area around the Passaic River bridge on Rte 3 was being rebuilt as well as the access roads in the area. Take the NJ Turnpike; its expensive but easy to drive. Beware that the entire road splits into 2 routes just north of Newark Airport, one going a little to the east and one going a little to the west. Watch the signs. You will want to take the east route.

Speaking of NJ Route 3, that road was engineered and built if the 1930's. We used to call it Route S-3. Like I said, the lanes are narrow and the road twists through the local towns, with malls and stores lining both directions. Going through some of the curves and twists on the highway, the roadway surface is banked the wrong way. Not bad with a car, but a 40 foot high profile motorhome would be a nightmare. And don't get me started on the clearances on some of the highway bridges and railroad overpasses in the area!

By the way, looking at the map that you posted. Just to the left of the number "5" on the map, the town of North Arlington is where I grew so many years ago. My brother works on the NJ Turnpike.

Jay,

Going to Denham Springs Louisiana but also have a reservation for Thanksgiving at the Cajun Palms RV Park & Resort. Should be a good trip. Berryland owes me a tank of Diesel so we will stop by there as well.
