My DW & I are looking to do some Fall camping in VT. Looking for comments on both Winhall Brook COE CG in Jamaica & Mountain Trails Camping Area in Rochester.
Our preference is for wooded, private sites with electric (water/sewer are welcome but not required). Don't need a ton of amenities in the CG other then decent bath houses. Peace & quiet is the name of the game. TIA.
I put this here in the NE region because I did a search on the "Need CG Info" forum but found neither of these CGs so I was hoping some "locals" might have some more info.

Hi Big Pack Fan,
I don't know anything about Winhall Brook COE CG but I have heard and read about Mountain Trails. It looks interesting and as you mentioned, peaceful and up in the mountains. River's Bend is nice and has beautiful river site. We are actually there for the week as I write. Also many of the VT state campgrounds are nice but no hookups. The season is just too short because I've been wanting to go to that campground in Rochester for quite awhile now. Also White River Camping is on a river and fairly quiet as is Camping on the Battenkill. Send me a PM or an email if I can provide more info.

Thanks for the comments Frankie & Lynnvt. My wife is a little gun shy to camp near a river as our area in NY was hit hard by recent flooding & she's a supreme worrier...... At least I convinced her to consider Winhall Brook (brook being the operative word - ). I'm thinking we'll roll the dice with Mountain Trails; was just hoping to hear from someone with firsthand experience. Thanks again!

I've been camping at Winhall Brook since I was like 10 or so (26 years ago). Most of the sites do not have any hookups. Only a small number have electric and water. There is a dump station. Its pretty quiet there and the restrooms are pretty good.
The "brook" isn't really a brook. Its a pretty good size depending on the section. The Winhall and West river (pretty sure that's the name) meet at the end of the campground. There's a nice swimming hole there. I like to go tubbing down the winhall through the campground if there's enough water.
