Cooterfest time is fast approaching. This year's dates are October 24, 25, and 26th. The Florida Cooters had a good time last year and there's no reason we can't do it again.

Camping will be at the former Rock Crusher Canyon (now Elite Resorts at Crystal River). I have notified them to expect calls from Florida Cooters. If you tell them that, they will keep the group near each other.

Read carefully: The rate is $32 + tax per night, payable upon making the reservation and it is nonrefundable. The Elite Resorts phone number is 800-356-2460. Wait for the prompts and press 1 for reservations and be sure to specify Elite Resorts at Crystal River.

Most of the festivities are on Saturday, the 25th but feel free to come early and check out the rest of Citrus County.

For more information about Cooterfest, here's the website: Cooterfest

Come on over to Citrus County and let's have a good time!

Who's coming....
1. Dave & Jo Ann (Half Dimes)/Byrtle
2. Jim & Mary Jane (Jim&MJ)/Zyrtle
3. Rick & Cheryl (Kissimmee Kids)/Eyrtle
4. Marty & Sharon (ladybluebutterfly)/KYrtle
5. Joe & Linda (The Coach)/Jyrtle
6. Bill & Lisa (Bill32258)
7. who's next?

Turtle Creek has no-see-ems and some dilapidated old trailers.

You should be able to get into my winter campground, Quail Roost RV CG for October 24, 25, and 26. Most lots are rented for 6 months but that period starts November 1st. 24 miles to Inverness south via route 41.

QR is very nice with a nice pool and 2 rec halls. $32 a night (no sales tax) but call or write for Discount Rally Group rates. Great free WiFi, cable TV with HBO, MAX and SHO, new Nautilus equipped fitness center included. Owners live on site and are involved with day to day operation.

New Quail Roost owned RV service and sales located directly across the street, Nature Coast RV

I drove through Sandy Oaks in March. They haven't made much progress building their new sites. All I saw was some of the old sites were moved. Looks like his new site construction is going to be slow. They do have a new rec hall and pool. Sandy Oaks is mostly a one man (owner) construction project.

What bothers me about Sandy Oaks is the huge over head high power lines coming out of Crystal River's nuclear and coal generating plants.

Sandy Oaks also has some old mobile homes and old travel trailers that haven't been moved in years.

You will be able to get in Rock Crusher. In March I drove through and saw about 5 sold signs.

Dave,
Since you're right there in Inverness, you be the wagon master and decide which campground is the best option for the Cooters.

We need to make reservations to make sure that we're all together--It's only 3 months away. Best to make reservations as early as possible.

Then we'll start a list for who is coming and when.

I'll post more information on this later in August. In the meantime, just keep that weekend in October open.

Keep us posted on the Cooter festival, we want to be there and will put a big sign on that week-end. We may be in the little Toyota camper but what the heck! It's isn't size that matters!

Let me know which day you all will be going to the Festival. I may just try to get out and meet up with you all for the day.

Derek,

That will be Saturday, October 25.

Soon as we get back, I'll get busy finding a campground.

OK folks. The information for this year's Cooterfest is on the updated first entry on the first page of this thread.

After a lot of searching for a suitable campground, we ended up at Elite Resorts at Crystal River (formerly Rock Crusher RV Park) again this year. I would have liked to have found something suitable on the east side of the county and with a more friendly reservation policy but pickins were slim to nonexistent.

But last year was fun, and this year will be too!

Not sure if I will have my smaller motorized camper ready in time for this rally but will sure make a good effort towards it.

I figure the 'no refunds' policy at Rock Crusher/Elite Resorts may be holding some folks back from making a decision on this rally. I know I don't like the policy, but we'll be staying at Camp HalfDimes (sorry, only one space there).

I've heard that lot sales at Rock Crusher have been underwhelming. I'm almost sure that there will be plenty of spaces available around Cooterfest without making reservations weeks in advance.

But a show of hands on this thread of those planning on going may help others make their decision.......
