Joe, George, Frank -

Any of you been to or know of Gaslight Campground in Emlenton? I saw this one reviewed on rvparkreviews' website (I usually lurk that site looking for places to go) & it consistently gets good marks. Just wondering if it's as good as the reviews say it is.

Of course, if gas prices continue up & job prospects for Dave don't materialize, we might not get out of OH this season.

Never been there. However, I've heard other people talk about it in conversation and I don't recall anything really negative being said about the campground. I downloaded and saved their campground map for future reference. $35.00/night for a full hookup site and I can't run my HWT on electric? The amenities mention "wireless Internet" but it doesn't shout the magic word "FREE" (as most do when it really is), so I suspect it's going an extra charge. Did you notice that there's only 30A electric (Of course, in my case, I only need 30A so it's a non-issue).

Yeah, it looks like a decent enough place so I put it down on my list of places to go. The 30A isn't, really, even an issue with us unless it's so hot that I'd need to run both AC's & the microwave all at the same time.

What's the no HWT on electric you're mentioning? Did I miss something in the rules?

Lori,

We camped at Gaslight one time early last Spring. Apparently the campground has changed ownership a couple years ago, as I read some strange reviews about the place. Some tended to comment about how mean the owners were, others said it was a nice place with friendly owners. We didn't have any issue with power or hookups, our only issues were weather related. The CG is only a half mile or so off I-80 and very easy to get into.

We went to Gaslight for our very first trip in the AB on the suggestion of a fellow I work with. The CG is an older place but reasonably well maintained. An elderly couple now owns it and seem very nice. Since we were anxious for our first trip, we were there in mid-April, on a rainy weekend and ended up being 1 of only 3 sites rented for the weekend. The pull-through sites, which I requested are a little close together, so the CG usually tries to rent out every other one to leave some space between them.

The only issue I did have with the place was that it needs more gravel spread on the roads and sites. Part of the issue of course was that we were there in very early Spring and it rained almost the whole weekend so that had a big effect on the mud. Later in the Summer, it might be fine.

In my case, lots of rain, and early soft early Spring ground didn't work out well. Since the sites are perpendicular to the road, rather than angled, it's a sharp turn in to them on very soft ground. It's a sinking feeling as the rig started spinning it's tires halfway into the site. I ended up backing up and trying again with the tag air dumped and then all was fine, but I did make a mess. I felt bad making the ruts, but I was following the owners directinos (he leads you to your site).

I don't have many pictures of the place other than a couple of our rig sitting on the site.

Where was Bill when I needed my tires cleaned

Naw, you didn't miss anything in the rules. It's on the campground map.

Frank,
I linked to that map & didn't even notice the rule. What are they gonna do, go around listening to everyone's rv to be sure the only sound is the propane flame kicking on? Maybe they have that on there because it'll cause a brown-out if everyone has their electric HWH on.

Joe,
Whoa! What a way to christen the new bus, huh? Note to self: Don't go to Gaslight in spring , wait for the late summer dry-out season.

Lori-

P.S. & what's with the gas prices going up 26-cent this morning (on top of the increases that've been happening for the past 2 weeks)!! It's like a holiday wknd is coming up or somethin'. I was out late this morning & my favorite station had regular at $2.199 & by the time I came back past it this afternoon, it was $2.459. Diesel is now cheaper than regular around here. Oh, well, at least it isn't the $4/gal pricing it was last year at this time.
