Is the receiver going to be for a bike rack? That is what I did with a receiver I added to the back of my hybrid trailer. I had a spare tire back there. I took the spare tire bracket off and made up a "L" shaped bracket (2" sq. tube stock)with a 2" receiver at the end. I would say 90% of the load is attached to the bracket and maybe 10% of the weight is resting on the bumper. Most lighter weight trailers these days have paper thin bumpers.
