There is a very large grass fire burning since earlier this afternoon in Comfort. For a while both directions of IH-10 was closed. The news reported some fire damage at Top of the Hill RV Park. The 6:00 pm news said structure damage, but wasn't sure if that was buildings or RV's.

Hopefully there will be better info on the 10:00 pm news. Keep ya'll informed.

We also saw this story on the news, and recognized Top of the Hill RV resort in the background of the picture. I hope they are okay...wonder if the RV's had to evacuate.
We are in such a dangerous drought...y'all do the rain dance!
(and continue praying)

Thanks John for the info! Our thoughts and prayers are with anyone in that area affected by the wildfire...especially those who are at Top of the Hill right now.

ANY news you get coming across the news stations there, please let us know. They aren't reporting about it here in the Houston area.

I just got ahold of the Skidds to update them. With the Hill Country Campout being hosted there in two weeks -Lou will call the rv park to find out what damage there has been and if rv'ers have to be evacuated...etc etc etc.

We will keep everyone posted w/ any updates there may be as to the campout

The extreme drought and heat is the culprit.......pray for rain, we all need it so desperately.

Sandy

According to the San Antonio 9:00 p.m. news,
142 acres burned, Top of the Hill RV park had 8 rigs destroyed, and several propane tanks exploded. No injuries, except to one firefighter.
It appears the fire started or was at it's worst right at the exit 533 , the exit we take to go to PoPo's restaurant and Top of the Hill.
Not sure if any structure of the park's office or other bldgs had damage.

I will be watching the 10:00 p.m. news for any addtional info.

Firefighters said 140 acres burned as they worked to control a significant wildfire that destroyed eight RVs and the clubhouse at an RV park near Comfort on Sunday. The Boerne fire chief told KENS 5 the fire had not been contained as of 9:30 p.m.

Thanks Mary Pal and TexNet for the updates! Our prayers go out to everyone at Top of the Hill and surrounding areas ..... thank heaven above that there was no loss of life, but my heart breaks for 8 rv'ers who lost their rigs today.

With the news of the clubhouse and rigs burned there, the campout will most likely be cancelled. ....more to be updated tomorrow when Lou contacts the park, but I suspect this will be the case.

We will TRY to get us in somewhere else, but it's going to be highly unlikely. With it being the 4th of July holiday only two weeks away, most nearby places will already be full.

We'll notify those who have signed up for the campout and keep everyone posted as to what the latest news is...

and keep on praying that the fire gets contained quickly w/o more loss of property.

Sandy

SA Express News this morning.....according to manager of the park:
Rally Hall (clubhouse) Laundry Room, Game Room, all those bldgs at the high point....the very "top of the hill" were destroyed, and that was the area were the RV's burned. It appears the offices and lower bldgs were saved. Thank God that everyone evacuated in time. Hopefully, they have good insurance and all will be well for them. It's a great RV park with very nice managers.

that's too bad. I hear now that the fire is all but extinguished. They have a couple of units watching out for flare-ups. As a retired F/F from an area that had a lot of wooded area, kudo's those those fire companies that responded. The stopped what could have been a much worse situation.

I too hope all have insurance to cover their losses and happy there was no loss of life. Hopefully that injured F/F is not a serious injury.

Go luck with your rally. We are down the interstate a bit at Buckhorn Lake.

Was truly a Blessing that no one was hurt during the fire the physical things can be replaced. Thank God that it didn't happen with our Boomer friends being there. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who lost their RV's and of course the park staff and owners.

It's been pretty quiet lately...just hearing a little more in bits and pieces. Once the fire was put out, the reporters head off to the "next big news item" and the folks at TOTH just have to deal with the aftermath by themselves.

Maggieboomer posted a little bit of info in the thread called "Workcamper Needed Now" post here in SCS. Her park is hosting one of the surviving rigs that had to leave TOTH.
