Is it raining?

Hope all of the Houston area foks are staying dry. I don't know how much rain we have had since last night. It was pouring yesterday evening when I got home and we had almost 2" then...emptied the rain gauge. This morning the rain gauge was over filled....at least 5" last night...who knows how much over that. Streets all over the area are flooded, school districts closed, busses can't get to the Park and Rides.

Neighbor down the street has water in the house and the only place around us that has no water in the street is our house and the neighbors on both sides. Ditches full and overflowed into the yards.

And we are to get MORE this moring.....

Hope everyone is keeping the houses dry.

Ken

Here in central Texas (Georgetown), we have had over 4" in the last 36 hours and it is raining lightly now (8am). Keep it coming! We are so far behind it will take years to catch up unless we have a series of gulley washers!

Hey Golden, I was born in Georgetown, TX and we were up there to vist a cousin about 2 weeks ago. We stayed at Eastview RV park.

I wish we could send you some of the extra water.

We've been watching the Houston area news all morning....wow. As you remember, all our kids live in the CY-Fair area and so far they are all safe.

Don't you just love it, behind in rain fall for months and make it all up in only a few hours. Gotta love Texas weather.

Stay safe...and dry.

It was coming down so hard and fast last night, our "french drain" in the backyard couldn't keep up. Rusty was out there in the lightening and thunderstorm for over an hour trying to keep the leaves/mulch from stopping up the drain - it was a wasted effort! The backyard was a lake.

This morning I got an email from the Cypress Creek Flood Control Coalition with this message....

RED ALERT To all Members and Friends,

Creek waters are rising rapidly. You can expect out-of-bank flooding to occur throughout Cypress Creek neighborhoods starting early this morning. Stream level at the S.H. 249 bridge crossing has gone up over 14 feet since yesterday morning and heavy rains - - ranging up to 7+ inches - - - - have been falling in upper watershed all night (both Big Cypress and Little Cypress areas and tributaries).

You should be aware that in- bank stream capacity at the S,H 249 bridge has 9 feet remaining as of 4:00 a.m. this morning and will continue to rise rapidly due to heavy, heavy runoff in Upper and Middle watershed areas.

R.D. (Dick) Smith
President, Cypress Creek Flood Control Coalition

If it continues to rain throughout the week (as they are predicting), I think those of us on the west side of Houston are in for a ride!

Sandy

We are down here in Galveston county, staying in a little park on the bayou. It was certainly exciting last night with the winds and rain. The thunder chased Cassie under ouor feet. She doesn't like all that noise!

Thank goodness we didn't have any damage overnight, and best of all, no leaks!

Hope everyone has good luck as well.

I saw on TV where the Cypress area (where I live) got about 11" of water. I lowered the water level in my pool about 8:00 PM last night and woke up at 3:00 AM to look out and see the water lapping at the top of the pool. I lowered it again about 8:00 AM this morning and it is already back up about 4", but at least the sun has finally come out. My subdivision was not flooded but I heard that Grant Rd. (the road between my house and Sandy's) was flooded with Cypress Creek still rising. I am SO glad I put the motorhome up in storage yesterday - I couldn't have gotten there today for the water on the road.

Jay, I finally got to read your blog today and it is great! I tried once before but the link did not work. Glad to hear you and Stella are enjoying your retirement so much.

We had terrible rain here in the area at Langham Creek, we got about 11 inches of rain. We have been here for 26 years and have never had this much flooding. Our Son's car on the street had water above the tires, the water was lapping over the patio at the back door, but didn't get in the house. Small leak in the kitchen at an outside corner. No power for about 3 hours but faired pretty well. Hoping it won't rain tonight or we'll be in trouble

I don't know where in Texas you are, but we at least are a full year behind in our rainfall total. San Marcos today declared a Stage 1 drought restriction for the city. The Hill country needs a LOT of rain before we catch up.

It amazes me that the Southeast area of Texas literally gets dumped on while other areas remain in drought situations! My back yard looked like a lake yesterday - we'd all be able to retire comfortably if we could figure out how to spread the rainfall around!!!

Hope those Texas Boomers who live between 290 and I-10, 610 and the Beltway are dry this morning! They are calling for more rain throughout the week, but hopefully not the downpour we've just experienced!

Sandy

Quack, quack, quack. I feel like I have grown webs between my toes and feathers. We go from no rain and way behind on the water to ahead in just a few days.

Hope the rain holds off and gives the water here a chance to go down a bit.

Ken

Unfortunately, this kind of rain ends up in the Gulf of Mexico instead of in the aquifer where it is needed.

We are in a four year drought ourselves here in east Texas.
