Rustyjc and I live in the Houston area and for the most part our winters are mild. We will have a few cold days in January-February, but it's usually only a day or so and then it'll warm up. The past two years we've gotten in the 20's ...but that's typically unusual!
We've been here 14 years and only had to "winterize" our rig the past two years on the several days that it dipped into the 20's. When our friends in the north are literally buried in the snow up to their hocks, we're down here camping with the Texas Boomers! We might have to wear a coat once in awhile and those who wear fur boots...well it's only for fashion purposes!
In Livingston, just north east of Houston area, there is a BIG retirement community for rv'ers. Lot's of people who full time have their base there and come "home" for awhile. It's run by the Escapees group. You might want to investigate it if you're looking in this area.

Congratulations! I did the same thing 4 months and 7 days ago. It is a great life so far. Someone said there would now be 6 Saturdays and 1 Sunday. A few of us got together and decided we would celebrate 4 Saturdays, then Friday because everyone looks forward to friday. Another Saturday and then Sunday to rest. Of course Friday is always the start of a 3 day weekend, so none of that going to work thing.

Big mistake letting everyone know you are retired. Now they will come out of the woodwork asking you to do things for them because they assume you have the time now.
I thought my work kept me busy. Nothing I did then can be compared to how busy I am now, with one exception, NO STRESS!!!!
Enjoy your's and make it stress free

I think 'retirement' is something you must earned - So, enjoy this new chapter of your life that you have earned.

Thanks to all for your warm wishes! We're gonna enjoy it.
As an old retired golfing buddy used to rub it in every Sunday after our round, "I don't have to go to work in the morning!"

We might have to move some of the rallies a little further from home. Tre and I love sandy beaches, warm breezes, and palm trees (of course flamingos fit in perfectly). Maybe Key West in Jan or Feb?
And then there's the little paper umbrella (a la Pina Colada, Mai Tai, etc) collection I am planning to start.....

Gee,, I think there is a song or two about that.
1: HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN
2: Brother, can you spare a dime
Oh, alas, I know only the 2nd. (By that I mean that though I've sung "Brother" and in public, for an audience even, I have never actually seen the lyrics to the other song or heard the original performed, only a beer ad that used it)

Jimmy,
Be wary, wary cawrful.
Being retired is hard work.
You never know when you are finished.
Sometimes I don't start retired work until noon, and sometimes I start it twice.
Congratulations!

I'm already starting to see what you mean.
I used to have weekends off.... and vacation days.... and holidays
Now it looks like I'll be having full time retirement every day.
What do you have to do to get a day off when your retired?
