Thumbs up Texas RV Registering

Greetings from East Texas RV registrations are through the roof I know for myself I can't hardly afford to keep my coach registered insured and be able to travel. I sent a letter email to our governor the other day asking him to help sponsor a bill that would lower the cost of registration to seniors and handicapped. I know there have been years I haven't been able to travel except maybe up to the corner to fill with diesel fuel not counting what I pay at the pump for taxes this works out to more than $300 per mile. I believe we should have a fair system for seniors may be paid by the mile or $50 per year not only would this be great for seniors but I believe the state would have many more seniors with RVs call Texas home collectively let's let the governor know what we think
thank you and God bless

Be careful what you wish for. Last I read Oregon is looking into very same thing - for ALL. Paying by the mile would only benefit a VERY small group of seniors and would create major problem for the majority of RV'n seniors.

You are correct Oregon has been ripping off truckers for years this way. I would only suggest this as an option possibly A trip permit just some type of an option to a six or seven hundred dollar yearly registration.

I have lived all over the country, and chose East Texas in retirement partly because vehicle registration costs are far less in Texas than in many states we were in over the years. Alabama for instance... when I retired from the military in 2005, it would have cost me $3,000+ to register my 2 yr old motorhome EVERY YEAR vs close to $300 in Texas. We saw the same kind of "personal property" tax add-on to registration in VA, GA, and many other states. TX registration cost has indeed gone up in recent years for most people, but still beats many other states. Then again, I would always go for lower rates!!

If you can't afford to pay your fair share to register your vehicle, you can't afford to own it. JMO

3 dollars per year plus inspection fee for me 100% disabled veteran, before it was 270ish

my parents bounder was 258 last year

still cheaper that florida or alabama

i would not support a per mile fee, we live in the country and its 17 miles to the grocery store

Yeah well like you say just your opinion I used to run trucks and pay thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars for registration and road Taxes. Then one day my life changed I hit a deer on my Harley after two months in a coma in another 3 months the hospital my bill was two and half million dollars. I promise you I have paid more and registration and road taxes then you'll ever even think about unless you own a trucking company and if you did you wouldn't talk about your fair share sorry not everybody can drive around and a half million dollar coach and burn cash I never thought about the other guy either until now I am the other guy just trying to survive I would pray to God that you never have to go through such a life changing experience think about it God bless drive safe

$3.00 for me as well and as well 100% disabled vet. I just got mine changed last month as last year when I registered the coach they said nothing over 18K Lbs. I didn't know better then. This year I looked in the registration manual and found where you CAN register if over 18K Lbs for $3 BUT you cannot have the ISA logo......No problem, I have DV plates. So I transferred my truck tags which were my $3 tags and put them on the coach. Then ordered new DV tags for the truck will be regular price as you can only have one vehicle with $3 tags......But the truck is way cheaper than the coach. Mine last year was just over $400 on the coach.

1) So why should seniors get the taxation advantage? I'm not retired and most retired (seniors) put far more mileage on their coaches that I ever did with my vacation schedule. IF you'd want to make it income based, that I could understand, but overall it's a cost of ownership.

2) If you're not traveling, why register it? I know that I don't register the vehicles that I know will be sitting. No penalty that I know of for not registering.

Yeah I guess you guys are right if you don't have the money you don't deserve to retire let's just save all tax money for illegals and welfare recipients hell seniors are going to die anyway .
Most of your seniors have worked hard all of their lives and have been overwelmed with cost of living, Obamacare and taxes in general. I am very happy for all of the seniors who did not lose their retirement in the stock market can afford to drive around in a new Prevost. It seems to me some of you resent seniors more than illegal aliens. God bless Texas!

Very helpful answer. Is this what this board has turned out to be? Seems very rude to me. And then a Mod does the same thing.

Let's not turn this to a political or personal attack.
