As y'all know from last year I had a bad run with flat tires. In Parin I bought 4 new Carlisle ST225/75R15E's. On our way to Burleson I had a blow-out on the right front which tore a hole in the bottom of the trailer. I had the trailer fixed at a great place in San Antonio called Iron Horrse RV. Very clean, organized and thorough. Anyway I received settlement from Carlisle Tire and I need some good information on tires to get. I've been told that Carlisle has had a bad run with trailer tires according to the web. But then RV repair shops recommend them. I just might have gotten a bad batch. I need some help choosing a good line of tires to get for the trailer.

Rich there are folks that have had good lucky with Carlisle tires. But "I ain't one of them"... On the Country Star fiver we had I had replace all four tires on that rig on one trip due to tire separation.

Since that trip experience I have been running the Goodyear trailer tires on my trailers. So far (Knock on wood) I have not had another failure.

We used to have lots of problems with the Carlisles and Chinese tires on the rental trailers when I was "In the business". Seldom did we have problems with Goodyears......

The rig I have now came from the factory with Carlisles. All SIX were changed before the rig took it's first trip to Goodyears. So far no problems in the three going on four years I have had it.

Just my 2cents worth from what I have experienced.....

Hey Richard,
Also, when was the last time you checked your weight for the rig. It sometimes has a way of creaping up on ya. See ya next weekend.

Best,

Bob

When I had a trailer I had the Chinese Mission tires which were well known for having problems early on in their life. I changed then all out to Michelin XPS tires. The Michelin were about 1/2 inch in diameter larger than the Mission, but I had no problems with them. I have known other trailer users to go to the Goodyear tires.

Good luck

On edit: If you stick with the same rating tire you will have no problem with the rims. If the tire you purchase is a higher rating than you rims, beware. Most rims will have a stamp on the back, or on the inside of the rim only viewable when the tire is off the rim.

On a rim that had 80 psi Max stamped on the inside there was an additional sticker that said 110 psi Max. A call to the rim manufacturer revealed that Keystone wanted higher rated rims and that they were re-certified for 110 psi. Go figure.

Unfortunately, the Michelin XPS Ribs (I had 'em on a previous 5th wheel and now have 'em on the truck) only come in a 16" wheel diameter, but there is a low profile size that might work for substitution where 15" wheels were originally installed.

I might be tempted to go with Goodyear simply because of their track record of quick, hassle-free reimbursements and replacements if there is a problem. Of course, the best situation would be not to have problems.....

Richard I suggest you look at the Yokohama tire. I replace 2 of the Michilin XPS I had on my trailer with them and drove the trailer to Seattle and back this summer with no problems at all. While they are LT tires rather than ST they seem to work well. Also talk to Carla & Billy Clifton as they replaced their tires with Yokohama's last Easter when we were in Kerrville.

I have had terrible experinces with both Carlisles and Goodyears.

I just say...hurry Richard. We don't want Queen Mary sittin' on the side of the road next Friday. Not that it is relevant, but I have GY G670 on my mh and the service has been great. I have 22000 with hardly any wear showing.

Discount tire is where I bought my Yokohama's for a good price. Got 2 tires for the price of 1 Michelin.

I think you're going to find the selection of decent 15" tires with a Load Range E rating, whether ST or LT, is pretty limited!!

We have good friend that swear by their 225/75/15 E Maxxis tires. On their 2nd set no with no problems with any of them.
