Question 95 Coleman Yosemite vs 99 Starcraft

In the process of buying my first PUP. I'm currently looking at 2 different PU one a 95 Coleman Yosemite owned by a RV tech that has had new larger tires and bearings done and the whole unit gone through. the other a 99 Starecraft. I have not had a chance to see either unit yet but will by next week. Just would like input from any of the experienced individuals on the pro's and con's of both units. My DW like the glass windows of the hardside Coleman, but I have read of issues with the hydrolic lift system of the Coleman and I don't know if it has an ABS roof. Any input would be welcome, Pricing on either would be between $2,800 and $3,500 max. Both are supposed to be excellent condition with no leak or water issues.

We love our Coleman. It has the ABS roof and hand-crank cable lift system. Looked at several and while we liked the Coleman, it was the condition that really put it over the others.

Go examine each carefully, set it up and take it down yourself at least once before you buy it because the current owner wont be there to help later. Look for damage or rot or sagging. Shake things and make sure it'll stand up to real use. Pay particular attention to the roof and attachment points and lift system, get under it and over it and be certain it won't crash down on you in your sleep even in a storm. Check the seams of the enclosure and where it attaches to the roof and box, every inch (I found a 6" section pulled apart at the roof in the middle of the wall later.) Check the door action, appliances, outlets and lights, propane system ...everything. Seemingly small repairs can be expensive so don't assume it is a cheap fix.

Time and exposure is very unkind to popups and it isn't always obvious.

Best of luck!

Well I ended up getting the 99 Starcraft Starmaster Field and Stream Edition after going out to see it today. The unit was in perfect condition and had always been stored inside. It was in extremely clean condition, not a single problem with the tenting, the exterior and interior were clean. All seams freshly redone about 2 years ago and were in good condition roof was perfect not even a single dent. Tires were new radials about 1 1/2 yrs old, and the bearings were done at about the same time. I purchased it for $3,000 which matched the NADA pricing and considering the condition it seemed like a fair price. I wasn't aware until getting there that it also had the screen room for the awning.
