I am looking to install a Yakima Rack (three bars).
When I ask the factory for any special instructiions to install the rack, they tell me there are special instructions on where to drill and special "factory parts"....and that to get either i need to just go to my local dealer to have them install the mounts and bars!
Yakima sells a mounting plate for applications where you are going to install through bolts and have access to the inside of the roof (ceiling). Then I add Control Towers and cross bars, and locks.
I can self install 3 bars and six towers with 12 lock cylinders for $280 delivered to me. Coleman wants $280 for just 2 bars installed.
I don't want the aluminum triangle "Coleman" brackets, and I certainly don't want to pay so much.
Do any of you have a copy of coleman "special" instructions? I want to make sure I am drilling in the right location, and that I seal properly....maybe the info shows what type of backer plate (if any) may need to be installed on the ceiling portion of the mounting plate. I just don't think that the Coleman "special hardware" does anything the yakima Landing pad #6 can't, or could do with minor modification.
Do any of you have a picture of the factory mounted yakima mounts from the outside and inside?
I have a 2000 Coleman Sedona with the aluminum roof that has a seam down the middle...i believe the standard before the ABS roof came out.
Appreciate any info...

dalfollo,
On thing to consider is the warranty. If your camper is still under warranty, you will void the warranty on the roof if you do any modifications (such as drilling holes for a rack). I would recommend that you purchase the rack yourself, then take it to the dealer and let them imstall it. You will pay for labor, but you will save a lot on the rack itself.

Dalfoolo,
Coleman has 2 types of installation. A "triangle" metal fixed bracket and a movable rail along the entire length of the trailer. The "triangle" unit was installed when I had the ABS roof. When they replaced it with the new type of roof, they installed the rails. I don't know if the type is dependent on the kind of roof.
The "triangle" bracket had the holes drilled all the way thru the roof and bolted with cap nuts from the inside. They used lots of chaulking for weather proofing. The screws for the rails do not protrue into the side of the roof.
