Kayak Camping

Hey all, I am new here. I am not sure whether this is in the right sub-forum, but here it goes anyway. My family and I were interested in doing some kayak camping. How does it work exactly? I have heard great things about it. My wife is out of shape ( to put it nicely), is this going to affect our trip? Sorry for my ignorance on the topic, I am new to camping and Rving. Thanks.

When you say kayak camping, do you mean taking the tent in the kayak & going down river to a campsite along the river or lake? Or are you wanting to take the RV to a campground where you can kayak nearby?

We take the RV or tent to a campground near a lake, river, international waterway & do day trips in our kayaks.

Where are you located? Maybe I can make some suggestions of where to go. We have been in NE NC near Kerr Lake, All over FL, & we are now in St Charles just north of St Louis. We have found good kayaking near all of these areas.

In my opinion, you are only restricted by your willingness to go on further. I am a long distance type personality, I have run marathons, backpacked for several days, biked 100 mile rides in a day & 2 week tours, & kayak for 4-6 hours in a day. My wife on the other hand has done this in the past , but wouldn't do it today. We taylor our trips to her preference. I would suggest you do the same for your wife. If paddling down stream you won;t have much too worry about. We usually paddle upstream first & make sure to turn around before my tires, then she is not fatigued for the paddle back down stream. If your wife hasn't paddled before there are several outfitters around the country who rent kayaks, will take you up stream a few miles , give you basic instruction and let you drift/paddle back to thier pickup point. A few day trips would be a smart idea before setting off on a river with all your camping gear for a multi day trip.

Best of luck, Its is good exercise & a lot of fun.
