The Decision!

I have a 1976 Starcraft Galaxy 6! I paid 700 for it and there are still a few problems with it. Some of the wood is starting to rot, it needs new bed rails, and it really needs a new canvas. I found out that the new canvas will cost me 1000. I just wanted to get some thoughts if it would be just better for me to trade it in and get a newer model. Or spend the money to het a new canvas fix it up a lite and turn around and sell it for what I bought it for and what I put into it? Any thoughts?

We rebuilt (new floor/cabinets/counters/cushions) our 1976 Coleman Valley Forge and bought the canvas from:
Bear Creek Canvas | Pop-Up Camper Recanvasing Specialists | Spencer WI

The new canvas was really well done, and fit exactly

They charge around $850 for most models.

We've had the new canvas for 10 years and still looking good.

I have heard nothing but good things about Bear Creek Canvas. But whether you go with them or buy new canvas directly from Starcraft, it will be almost impossible to sell it for what you've got into it. I'm assuming JBLM is Lewis-McChord. I'm not far south of you, and in my area I can buy nice tent trailers almost anytime for $500 to $1200, ready to use. I have a very nice one that cost me $400 and needed no repair. I'm looking at another one right now and the asking price is $650.

Either sell it as is or fix it and keep it. If you fix it, at least when you finish you'll know what you have.

With that said....Putting in time to fix the rotted areas, fixing the bed rails and 1k for new canvas. you will have 2k to 2.5k into it plus your time....I have seen many late 90's Coleman popups in the $2000 $3000 area.

If you can dump yours for $500 and upgrade to a new unit....I think you will be ahead in the long run...You will now know what to look out for as far as bad canvas and rotted areas.....I think the newer PUP's have canvas called "Sunbrella 302" which holds up better

The Decision part 2

Well, with some good advice and discussing it with my wife i think we will for now keep what we have and make it our home away from home. The first step I have taken has been replace the plywood around the roof that has become very rotten.
I was wondering if anyone coud tell me how to fix the sag in the roof not all the sides go up or down evenly and I am having to prop the one side up so that the rain wi no collect in that side.
