Will tires hold up on my pop up camper?

Newbie here. Purchased small pop up last year, used. Weight is listed at less than 1400lbs. It needed new tires so I installed new wheels and tires, 5.10 x12 load D. Thinking of traveling from Pa to Colorado next summer. Are these tires going to make the trip, both ways? Can’t help but think going to a better tire on a 13 in wheel would not be going around so fast etc. Or should I be okay with what I have?

I don't think the install of a tire with one more inch of rim diameter will make a difference in the overall scheme of things. What I would do is #1) make sure they are properly inflated to max psi as listed on the sidewall of the tire #2) Carry one or even two spares along since they can't be that expensive and have the necessary equipment to change them myself #3) Follow the guidelines from the manufacturer for the max speed rating of the tire (if it is 65mph, don't run 75) The new tires you have are certainly capable I feel of providing you with safe travel for several years to come with the correct amount of maintenance and upkeep. Get out there and enjoy your trip.

What he said^^^
I would add, be sure to check your wheel bearings before the trip. Inspect and repack them with fresh grease.

Totally !!!! those little wheels will be spinning very fast ! Check/repack those wheel bearings ! Cost, small up front.... Weight on your rig I would not worry about. As said take a spare.... Monkey

At least you are smart enough to buy new tires. Be sure you know what the weight rating is in them and keep it under 65. Years ago the small / fat pop-up tires used to have blowout issues because they built up so much heat.

Years ago I upgraded tire size like you have asked. My answer is a HUGE improvement in towing and tracking! And both the tires and bearing temperatures dropped quite a bit! It was a HUGE improvement.

from WA State.
Glad you're thinking ahead for safety. Run the tires at the pressure on the sidewall, keep the speed within the max speed and check them whenever you stop if yo don't have a TPMS.

Your new tires probably have 1220# of load capacity at 65 PSI which is surely enough for the full loaded trailer you describe. Make sure your valve stems can handle the 65 PSI.

Almost all ST tires now have speed letter ratings on their sidewalls. Most are around 75 MPH. Without the letter they default to 65 MPH.

Will tires hold up on my pop up camper?

Load range D tires for a small popup like yours are awesome. You will have no problems at all if you keep cold tire pressure at max sidewall rating and stay at 65mph or less. I have done this with load range C tires on my 2,000 lb p’ups for almost 50 years with only one tire issue (didn’t even go flat...was a tread separation). Baraff hit it on the head...grease your axle bearings. And check them nuts! Lug nuts that is...

I’ll bet they were 10 inchers, or maybe even 8 inch. Especially if it is an old trailer, small wheels were common back then.

I installed same size that was on it, 5.10-12. Would like to be able to run 70 mph or bit more going cross country.
