To, ALL MOTORHOMERS, particularly the new or first time owners.
After having a phone conversation with a first moho owner , I thoght the following info should be posted and probably in it's own section.
Weight and proper tire inflation are crucial for SAFETY.
All tire manufacturers have books available, my rigs had them in owners kits, these books list all the tire sizes along with the # of pounds of air for each wheel position, if you can't get 4 position weight, use axle weights.
Ideally, weigh rig unloaded, if just buying it, insist that it be weighed BEFORE you buy to see if actually weighs what the manufacturer states. Adjust tire pressure as needed,
Load the rig to it's camping weight and have it weighed AGAIN and adjust tire pressure to specs., but remember, add the PEOPLE and food weights to rig before adjusting air pressure.
The above is crucial for SAFETY and the rig wlill handle and ride better.. Tires are made to have all tread meet the road, too hard, just the middle of tire meets. road,, too hard and just the edges meet the road . It is amazing what a diference the right pressure to load makes and the tires last longer..
Another observation, to all who have Goodyear, G 159 tires on their rigs and don't have the ride or handling they want. The 159 is/ was the best truck tire around, UPS, FEDEX, etc. it has real thick sidewalls, for hitting curbs and such and thick treads for re-grooving,. Both of these make for a hard, bumpy ride,
The newer G670 RV by Goodyear does a good job of improving handling and ride.
