I have a motorhome with 50 amp service. We camp in a lot of places that only have 30 amp service. While at an RV store I saw a cord that had 30 amp and 20 amp male plugs on one end and a 50 amp female on the other. The dealer said you plug the 30 and 20 in if there are two separate circuit and it gives you 45 - 50 amp service. Does anyone know if this will work or is it a waste of $70?

I would not do it. The CG shore power most likely only has 30 amps and related wiring behind it and you are probably asking for problems when you try and pull more through it. Check the threads on EMS systems so you don't get burned (as in fire) by low voltage.

I have used mine successfully twice in about 3 years. It won't work if the 20 amp circuit is GFI protected and most 20 amp circuits in RV pedestals are GFI. That is my experience, yours may differ.

Even if it does work, you'll have 30 amps max on 1 of your 50 amp buses and 20 amps max on the other - better than straight 30 amps, but not as good as the 50 amps capacity on each of your two buses you have with true 50 amp service.

Thanks to all. I did the search on "cheater box" and agree with those who say it won't work. I guess the old saying if it's to good to be true it probably isn't applies in this situation. Thanks again to all

The cheater box works fine in certain circumstances. If you know your electricity well enough to use it properly, it can be a big help. If you don't, save your money because you will just get frustrated.
