4 or 6 House Batteries

Well it's time for new batteries. My 2013 Fleetwood Expedition currently has 6 6v golf cart batteries. I am considering going down to 4 AGMs.

Any reason (technically) I shouldn't do this other than the obvious reduction in capacity?

A little about our usage. We rarely boon-dock. Generally our batteries are only used during short stops like eating and fueling. At home in storage the RV is always plugged in.

I like the idea of reduced cost & weight with 2 less batteries.

Thanks,
Joe

Except for boon docking, it sounds like you could get away with just two batteries. So the answer lies in your boon docking preferences. Mostly I think it boils down to how you feel about generator noise and smell and fuel handling and such.

Agree in your case that reducing the number of batteries is ok. For the short periods you mention, I concur with hclarkx that even 2 batteries is sufficient.

I'm in the same camp. DW cannot dry-camp/health reasons. Our MH only has room for 3 12V gp 31 batteries, or 4 6V batteries. I just replaced the 3 old batteries with new Duracell 105AH ones @ $100 ea. from Sams Club; cheaper than also having new cabling made up on top of 4 6v batteries.
For that reasoning it may benefit you to buy 6V batteries, you already have the necessary cables.

I do anticipate stopping for lunch at rest areas and using the inverter to power the coffee maker and microwave, my reasoning for buying 3 batteries.
