We are heading to the SW end of Dec for 3 months...have our campgrounds all reserved. One thing I noticed is some of the spots may be better suited to pull straight in instead of backing in...this could cause the power cable to be too short to reach the pedestal...so not sure if I should get a 15' or 30'....difference of course is price and weight...30' are heavy....any suggestions?

I got two, a 15' and a 10' to cover all the bases

Many times we will turn around and have to drape the cords, sewer, etc under the rv...

Before we had an electric cord reel installed in a middle bay, we carried a 12ft extension cord DH made. That took us from the rear of the coach (where it used to be) to any shore power pedestal, no matter where it was located on the site.

I have a 50amp extension cord and have used it to connect to the outlet in my garage when I've backed into my driveway. So far I've never needed it at a CG.

We only need 50A if we are wanting to run the second rooftop ac.

You probably would not need the second ac in the SW in the winter.

I used my 30' 50a extension several times.

It was heavy, stiff and expensive, but I needed it.

I have a 30' we just coil up the extra under the coach and have enough no matter how I park

We carry a 40' 50 amp cord and have had to use it several times. We also carry a 100' 30 amp cord. My wife attends dog shows and most of the time they don't have convenient of enough outlets so we have to improvise.

I carry an extra 50 foot (I think ten gauge but might be 8) longer cords do need heavier wiring if you want to carry a load, right? And I have used it, most often at a friend or relatives house ,not at an RV park.

A 50 amp should be AWG 6 to carry the rated current. You can get by with 10 gauge for the 30 Amp.

We also used to show dogs and some sites required extra long power cords. I made up a 45 ft - 50amp cord using 8/4 SO power cable and RV connectors. SO cable is water and oil resistant and much more flexible than the regular 50 amp RV cord.. Have only used it a half dozen times in 10-12 years.... But when you need one......

(Don't know how well SO cable would stand up to constant use as a primary power cable???)

I was thinking the same thing. I have a 30 amp extension for my 50 amp coach. Thought I might need it when we traveled thru Canada last summer and stayed at government parks.

Removed the 30 amp female plug and installed a 50 amp in it's place. Wanted to avoid using the dog bone adaptor when ever possible.

I would carry a 30' cable rated for 50 amps. You cal always use a 30 amp dog-bone if needed. Some sites have the power pedestal in the far back. At one stop, we just had enough cable so that's why I bought the material and made my own 30ft 50 amp power extension cord.
