50 amp service when camping question

I just made a reservation to stay at First Landing campground in VA.
It states that the site has 50 amp service.
My Rogue has 30 amp service. So does 50 amp service mean it has up to 50 amp service or only 50 amp service at the sites?

I believe only the big boy Class A's require 50 amp service and find it hard to believe the sites will only have that type of service.

I hate to show up ill-prepared. Yet really don't feel like shelling out $100 for a 50-30 pigtail.

It's pretty rare for a campground to not have 30 amp sockets along with the 50 amp sockets. The only place I've seen that is at RV Resorts that cater to (or only allow) big Class A Motorhomes.

You're probably safe, but you could always call them to confirm.

Pigtails aren't that much, generally in the $30 range. It's a good idea to have one. I have, in crowded conditions, had to take a camping spot that only had 50-amp plugin (when I had a 30-amp camper), so I used a 30F - 50M pigtail. Now that I have a 50-amp unit, I added a 50F - 30M pigtail to my supply of connections.

I know last year when we camped at an ATV park it stated 50 amp service. However the panel had all 3 hook ups.
Where can I find a pigtail for $30? All the ones I have found are $100+.

I am pretty sure Walmart sells pigtails, and they are in the $30 range.

I'm sure if you Googled "Power Grip" you could find the exact same thing for $100.

Just buy a 50 to 30 adapter pigtail. Your best prepaired that way for other situations down the road. Some parks have all three setups available.

Our RV has got a 50Amp cable and plug. I can't recal seeing a 50Amp hook-up without a 30Amp socket right next to it, and we have been to an awful lot of campgrounds.

So to answer your question: I would be very surprised if you are not able to plug in your 30 Amp connection without an adaptor, but if in doubt - just call the campground and ask.

We stayed in a CG down around Huntsville AL last year that had 30 & 50 amp in the same panel. Only problem we discovered the hard way, they had jumped off the 30 2xs to wire the 50. Needless to say the breaker had kicked when we returned from visiting the Space and Rocket Center and the dog thought we were being mean to him by turning off his AC. Politely explained our situation to our close by camping neighbors and went over on genny to cool coach down.
We won't assume the CG has properly wired their sites again just because they advertise that way.

At Pocahontas campground where we host all of the 50 amp sites also have the 30 and 20 options. I would expect First Landing to be the same. Enjoy your stay.

Yep. Have one and used it, but it won't tell you that they Y ed both hots off the 30 amp. It will still give you 110 to grnd on both legs and 220 across the 2 hot legs.
