50a Voltage Boosters

Both Franks and Hughes sell 50a boosters and I can't figure out why. Although low voltage is often a problem with 30a service, my understanding is that you seldom, if ever, see that when plugged into a 50a service. (I could be mistaken about that, but I've never heard of anyone finding low voltage at a 50a service.)

Since a "booster" is really just a step-up transformer, it simply trades current for voltage - IOW it may boost your voltage 10%, but that will result in 10% less available amps, given an equivalent load. So logic tells me that a 50a booster inline with a 30a pedestal service is not going to do anything more than using a 30a booster. No RV voltage booster can generate power, allowing you to increase the load. It just boosts voltage to keep your appliances safe.

So, I am curious to know why anyone would need a 50a booster? Can anyone who uses one of these things elaborate?

These devices are designed to ensure the voltage to the MH stays above a predetermined value. If the input voltage drops, they have the capability of effectively changing the turns ratio thereby maintaining the correct output voltage. Power consumption will depend on the load and will reflect back to the power source.

They ensure the voltage to the MH loads remains within the needed parameters. By doing so, it protects the loads from possible low-voltage damage.
