5500 diesel gen smoking when start

have a 5500 onen diesel gen.2500 hours on it runs great took out and had new brushes and machined due to would not start. put new fuel filter & air. when i first start it holy cow smokes for awhile till it warms up. check oil not to full. i know diesel smoke when first start up.any feed back would be nice.

Older diesels without the clever comouter engine management systems do put out blue smoke until warmed up. I had an early 19805 Nissan diesl pick up as my daily driver a few years back. On a calm day, the smoke hung around our cul-de-sac for a good 20 minutes after I left for work.

talk to a cumins dealer today have to find out if it has glow plugs. he said it sounds like a cold cylinder.to far from home to take out .so sorry to any one down wind.
