6 volt house batteries......in series or parallel?

I know this may seem like a dumb or obvious question, but what is the best way to wire up 2 6 volt trojan t 105 house batteries?

Put the positive cable on one battery negative on the other then connect the two left over terminals together.

I'm guessing in series since they are 6 volt batteries.

It depends if you want to run 6volt or 12volt.

Thanks for all of the replies. Just want to make sure I was doing this correctly for the past few years....lol. I should have known already since I was using 6 volt batteries.
