6KW Diesel Gennie Question

We are starting to look at our next RV. It will be a diesel either a super C or DP at our price point the units we are looking at have 6k Diesel gen sets with 2 15k AC/heat pumps. Is this enough Generator for both these units going on? Thanks

KC

A 6kw generator is capable of running as many as 4 "15k" A/C heat pumps at the same time.... (2 will not be a problem).

Two roof a/c units will use about 2700 watts (11A each @ 120v), so you still have another 2300 left for everything else. That's not a lot, but should let your fridge, water heater, etc. continue to run ok. You might, however, come up short if both heater & fridge are using power and you turn the microwave on as well. An RV with 50A shore power cord would typically have a 7500 or 8000 watt genset, to give it a bit more capability..

Our coach has a 50 amp service with a 7.5 KW Onan generator, it will run pretty much everything we have in the coach. I exercised the generator a couple weeks ago and ran both AC's, the water heater, a toaster oven on broil, and a small space heater. I was pulling about 63 amps for 40 minutes. Not a problem.

Also, our coach has an Intellitec EMS system which manages the load if we are plugged into a 30 amp circuit. It controls both AC's, Water Heater, and Washer/Dryer to keep the load under 30 amps. It will drop out a circuit (s) if the load goes above the 30 amp. I can't remember if we ever kicked a 30 amp service while plugged in.

Our '02 DSDP had two 13.5 heat pumps and an 8KW diesel gen, never had any trouble running them and the Advantium at the same time. In fact I specifically ordered the 13.5 heat pumps so I could run both off a 30 amp service.
The present rig has three 15K heat pumps and a 12.5 gen so no problems there either.
