Tony, Welcome

Based on personal experience, I'll bet that your plugs, fuel pump, fuel & filter are fine.

Remove, clean and re-install the EGR (Exhaust Gas Return) valve located on the rear of the engine. It gets stuck with carbon buildup and will cause it to stutter, miss, idle rough or just sounds terrible.

I've had to do this on not only mine but my dad's and brother's big blocks. I scrape off or glass bead (sandblast) any carbon or buildup, lubricate with WD40, make sure push rod is free, seal with high temp 3M and reinstall or go to NAPA and purchase a rebuilt one (had to do that for my dad's 460 second time around).

Before you go and spend a lot of $$, R&R the valve and try it out. It is not a difficult job.

The Problem was the TEMP Sending Unit to the Computer -it was telling the engine that it was never warming up -- Changed out the $30.00 part and it runs great ---

Wow...I would not have guessed that in a million years. Was your temp indicator on the dash showing the proper temperature or was it also showing always "cold"?

Stated the fuel filter was dirty when changed. What about the condition of the air filter. A dirty on can cause a mileage loss as well as other problem. glad you solved your problem

Thanks for letting us know what it was.

At any point, did you ever check the OBD-1 codes? The coolant temperature is closely monitored by the ECU and a bad reading or the engine not warming up (or warmup not being sensed) should have set a code, probably code 338.
