I'm considering buying a '97 Safari Trek model 2830 front diesel. Does anyone out there have any experience with this model? The coach is in great shape, pristine to be exact, but I'm concerned about the chassis (P30) reliability, handling, etc. 89000 miles Thanks, Leo

If this is the one on the Isuzu chassis, they were underpowered but otherwise pretty bullet proof. They had some trouble with the dash coming loose from the bulkhead, but this was not too hard to fix. There used to be a Trek board that had everything you need to know on it. Don't know if it is still around or not.

One last thing. The drop down bed had some electric motor problems. They eventually replaced the motors with a slightly improved design which fixed the issue I believe.

Also, if it has the GM diesel instead of the Isuzu, they had overheating issues, especially the rear engine one. As long as the engine had never been overheated they were okay, but people had a habit of sticking their foot into the accelerator up a long hill and eventually the radiator would not keep up with the heat it generated.

I owned a '96 Trek 2430 with the GM fuel injected gas 454 and overdrive trans. I loved it, and it consistently got 8.5 to 10.0 mpg depending on towing and road conditions. My nieghbor had the exact same model with the GM diesel (6.5 I think). He hated it. We would switch RV's occasionally when traveling together and I hated his as well. The diesel was a complete turd. Same RV, just different motor. All the difference in the world. I would strongly urge you to by a gas motor outfit.
