A Different Kind of Step Problem

I have a 1998 Fleetwood class A with the Kwikee double steps. The cast metal cover plate that holds the bushing for the pivot arm has broken into 3 pieces. Apparently the design changed around 2000 and this part is no longer available. JB Weld has not held it together, even with some joint reinforcing. I really hate to spend a bunch for an entire new motor assembly because the motor works fine. My next step (no pun intended) is to check welding shops for someone who can weld the pot metal and/or start contacting salvage yards for an old style used assembly. Still, I really hate to buy an entire used motor assembly just for the cover plate though. Any suggestions?

There are times when you just gotta grit your teeth and buy new. To my knowledge there is no way to repair pot-metal permanently.
Carquest auto stores do sell a black epoxy-type material that is advertised to hold stuff permanently, if the counter-top display is to be believed.

You might check with these folks and see if they can help you.

Might also contact some of these places and see if they have the part:

Without seeing the part, would it be possible to remove the plate, clean it up really good and fiberglass the whole surface. Possibly the inside too if there were no clearance issues.
