A rant about dealers and house batteries.

Hi,

From what I gather 6volt gc2 golf cart batteries in pairs are the best to use in a RV. Also if a battery has a CCA on the label its a starting battery.

I am purchasing a Itasca Latitude class A and the batteries are the green ones in the photo. I was concerned the batteries are toast so the dealer said they would change them out for the black batteries in the pics.

I have told the dealer if the batteries are toast to not swap them and give me a credit toward the batteries. I would then go to Sam's and get GC2's for 85$ a pop.

Also the dealer said that I could have an issue using 6 volt batteries, I thought this was not accurate.

Why do dealers use non gc2?

Thanks,

They probably get the 12 volt batteries at a deep discount.

What do the say about the MHs that come with 6 volt battery banks ?

He said something about a special way to wire them. I told him I understood how it worked as already have two gc2's in the coach I am trading in.

That particular dealer probably does not know that 2 6v's are a better way to store power.

It did not instill much confidence in me.
I will see what the Techs say during the PDI.

I put the thread up to sanity check myself :-)

Anytime it says marine it’s a combo starter/ deep cycle and like most combos it does neither well
Most people, unlike you, don’t know the difference and see marine / RV and think “I got RV batteries” and for a small RV that a single battery source does both starting duties and lights etc that may be ok
I second the opinion they get them cheap and in bulk and use them in everything

The green battery is a 12 volt battery, so they want to replace it with another 12 volt battery.
To replace it with two six volt batteries would require extra cables, which I presume the dealer doesn't want to spend the money on (which makes sense to me).
Keep trying to talk them into giving you a credit so you can get what you want.

Ask the dealer, what kind of batteries are in his RV

Geeze, tell him you will provide the wiring, it's not much $ for that.

Also be careful with what you ask for, I checked the two 6v T-105's in my coach before I bought it, both were bone dry. I asked for them to replace them and they agreed. I ass-umed that I would get two new T-105's....nope, when I picked up the rig it had new T-605's which are slightly lower in capacity/rating than 105's. My bad, lesson learned.

Yes, I could get cabling very cheap.

I emailed them and if the batteries need replacing they will give me store credit. They will also do the same for the TV if its not working.

Problem with stire credit us you have to use it to buy at the dealers high / inflated prices. Dealer wants to give you store credit because it costs them less.

To parallel 12volt you need 2cables + to + and - to -. On 6 volt series you need 1 cable + to -. This is for two batteries. You need less cabling to do series than parallel.
