We have an 03 Itasca Suncruiser with the basement a/c. It worked pretty well back in Pennsylvania after we worked out a few leaks in the rear duct. However now we are staying long term in eastern New Mexico and it's HOT and strong sun, plus we're in a site without shade. The basement a/c is not keeping up in the living area when the temperature is in the 90's and above.

I've read about people adding an extra a/c to the living area to help cool the main living area. What is the best way to get power from the load center to the new a/c? Is it safe to run the wire along the surface of the wall and ceiling using conduit of some kind?

The Basement AC is a issue for many who have them.

You can also go to a Walmart or a Best Buy and purchase a window A/C to use up front. Just take some 2x4's to put together a makeshift support for the overhang outside the window.

I was able to use a dowel road to make a hole in ceiling insulation to an area over the power center switches (Heater, air conditioner, water pump, etc). Attached a string to the dowel rod and pulled it back. Then taped wires to the string and pulled them through the insulation to the area above the control panel and down and into the basement.

That's a GREAT idea also.

I have been inside a friends coach with a floor model portable A/C and they work very well.

Mama & me had already discussed ACs for the class A we get. We want two roof ACs which would probably be 13,500btu each & so can be upgraded to 15,000btu if needed. And that could be seriously needed as both our homes are in Florida.

I tried one of those before I added a roof AC to my RV to help the basement AC. Yes, they work pretty well but they do take a bit a space, you have to duct it (the exhaust heat) to the outside through a window which is not hard. They are heavy and I found moving it out of the RV in the fall and back into the RV in the spring was not easy at my age.
