Air Brake Warning Alarm

I am have problems at times when releasing the air brake knob switch that the warning alarm comes on. I have plenty of air pressure on the gauge. It is not everytime. Sometimes I try to push it down harder and it will quit. Is there a electric switch that controls this alarm connected to the valve or is an air operated switch valve that is connected. Appreciate your help. Thanks.

RAMBLER38...Welcome to iRV2! There could be a couple reasons for your problem that other Monaco Brand owners have experienced. Some may need to fill reservoir - others may need to clean them...
Why don't you head down to the Monaco Forum and do a search and see what you find!
We look forward to reading your posts and helping out anytime we can!

Rambler38, welcome to iRV2.com. We are glad to have you join us and we look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. I am sure you will enjoy the website and forums. Be sure to get a signature set up through the "User CP" button with the info of your rig. A year make and model will always be helpful if you have a question.
All the valves I have seen, have only been to control air pressure for the parking brake. I don't recall seeing any electrical connections on any, so the warning must be from air pressure on the parking brake and when the transmission is engaged the circuit is completed to warn you on the dash.

Is the transmission in in gear when this happens? I think you may be hearing the "in gear" alarm rather than low pressure. It is interlocked with the transmission, to let you know if the emergency brake is applied

Yes, the alarm sounds when I release the air brake control and put the transmission into gear. I have plenty of air pressure, it is not recognizing the brake has been pushed off.

Hi Rambler38,

It would help if you could identify make, model and year of your coach. If the alarm comes and goes when you set and release the park brake or shift into and out of neutral I believe it is the park brake warning and not the jacks down warning. Generally if it is a jacks down warning in addition to the alarm all the lights on the Power Gear controller will flash.

If your coach is similar to my 06 HR Endeavor there is a electrical switch located on the Park Brake Knob. It is under the side dash panel and screws into the manifold for the park brake knob. Over time they begin to fail and do not send a signal to the alarm to tell the system the the park brake has been released. I was having the same problem as you and I replaced mine and the alarm has stopped.

It is a fairly ease job and the switch is only about 35 dollars from Monaco. You do not have to bleed down the air systems before replacing the switch. First remove all the screws that hold the side dash panel in place. Then carefully lift up the panel you may need to angle it a little on the back end so the air lines going the the park brake manifold will clear the opening. Now have someone hold the panel while you use two wrenches to loosen the switch from the manifold. The switch connects to the coach wiring via a connector about 2 or 3 inches from the switch. Put some Teflon tape on the new switch before screwing it back into the manifold. Then just put the panel back in place and replace the screws. This should fix the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion on replacing the switch. My unit is an 04 Endeavor. My problem is just when releasing the brake and putting the unit into gear. Jacks all work o.k. I will look into replacing the switch. Is there a brand to look for besides Monaco? Thanks.

I just checked the parts list maintained by Rex over on the Monacoers group in Yahoo Groups and they list the manufacture as Nason. But it looks like these are custom made for a given application, so you would need to know the part number for your unit. You don't have to go directly to Monaco National Parts, although under Monaco RV LLC they seem to be giving good service, you should be able to order the switch through any good Monaco dealer or service center.

I am having the same problem on mine. We also had it in 2005, when we had the yellow emergency knob/switch replaced. That stopped it for five years. When we get back home I am going to insist that my mechanic replace that part which I hope will take care of it fo another 5 years.
