Help!

I need some insight...

The rear A/C has been giving me trouble for maybe a year or two. It has
been leaking into the ceiling. I have been working with a local dealer (who
is reputable). Until this past week he has not been able to duplicate the
problem. After running the A/C all day (a hot and humid day) the ceiling
got wet... during the day lots of water kept running off the roof. So, now
we think that the unit is icing and thawing periodically, when the ice melts
the fan is pulling water from the coils into the opening for the ceiling
area. Or, the foam tray the coil is above, has a hole in it. This seems to
be less likely as I don't get a wet ceiling all the time. We did find water
outside of the foam tray area the coils sit in, but still on the foam
container.

Any A/C techies, or others, ever know of a situation like this?

Ed,
note my post about my Air conditioner Leaking
in to our motor home. The reply that I got
from Jim was right on target. There is a
drain hole that allows the water to run out
of the air conditioner on to the roof. if this
becomes plugged then when the ice melts it will
overfow and come in throgh the ceiling. I was
able to fix the problem. you may have some
debris in that area that is intermittantly blocking the drain..check my earlier post from
cubman in this department..The best Pete

The hose is open and the pan clean... was on the roof and checked it with the cover off the A/C.

If you suspect that the unit is freezing up at times; I would recommend you check the discharge air ducting to be sure that it is sealed from the return or short cycling of the aiir can ccause this freezing. If you suspect that the fan is pulling the condensation off the coil and casuing the unit to drip water into the coach you can wash the evaporator coil with Electisol dishwasher solution. This will allow the condensation to cling to the coil surface better and not get pulled off as easy. Again be sure that your drains are working properly. Also be sure that there is no breakdown of insulation that could cause condensation on a cold surface. Good luck and let us know what you find and how you solved the problem.
