97 Safari Sahara, Diesel pusher w/o air brakes. I can't find the compressor. The tank has no pressure. The valve that releases air to the horns works when the horn button on the steering wheel is pressed. All fuses are good. Any help is appreciated.

This little air compressor could be located anywhere; under floor or above but under drawer, cabinet, dash. Have you tried following air lines? Try calling Monaco, as they are new owners of Safari. GOod luck and keep us posted.

Even though you don't have air brakes, the engine comes with a compressor. Look in the rear of the coach for an air tank. If by chance you don't have a compressor on the engine, crawl up in the front cap and look on the so called firewall, you may find it mounted there. Just reread the note, you say the tank has no pressure, look at the pressure regulator on the compressor, it may be stuck and not allowing the engine compressor to build up air. That does suprise me as the emergency/parking brake uses air to release. Does the gauge on the dash show any air pressure at all? Do you notice the gauge going up to pressure and then dropping back to 90# then building again. You may have a 1/4 inch air line broken some where and the air is leaking. Find the air tanks first and trace from there. Good Luck.

Your air compressor is located on a frame member that is about over the center of the driveshaft. It is kinda hard to see it since the control valve for the emer brake is close to the same spot.

If you open the bed, stick you head down to the top of the tranny and look toward the front of the coach you will see it.

NOTE, the air compresor is 12VDC powered. It provides air for the horns and pac brake only. There is no engine compressor. The coach has either spring or rubber suspension. Sarari did not use air for suspension till late '98-'99. The emergency brake is applied and released by hydralic oil presure which is supplied by a engine mounted hydralic oil pump. The emergency brake drum is on the output of the transmission and locks the drive shaft from turning. There is no Air Presure gauge anywhere on the coach.

In addition to the compressor being located on a frame cross member above the transmission/drive shaft I learned something else. The pacbrake is made in Canada. Buying it from Monaco in Oregon means not only having to pay Monaco a reasonable profit but also paying paying Monaco for the duty they had to pay Canada. I also had it installed on our trip while in Canada which meant my paying duty of $85 in addition to the shipping and installation. In the end a compressor that should have cost $290 from pacbrake wound up costing me almost $800 including installation.
