Air horn malfunction information
Thought I would post this info' for others. Been having intermittent Hadley air horn issues. (True air horn type - runs off coach air.) Apparently sticky solenoid valve is a common issue. A lot of folk take them apart and lubricate them. I was thinking that would be the problem. Our coach is 2011 with very low miles. Our valve is a sealed one piece structural plastic unit. No way to get it apart. The online catalog replacement part looks the same. So looks like no more valve maintenance on new ones - they seem to be going to the "throw it and buy a new one" method.
Turns out our problem was not a sticky valve. I found that the power connector has very short pin insertion, so the connector needs to be fully inserted in the socket There is a rubber weather seal around the connector plug that fits inside the socket on the valve. They split easily and bunch up, so you need to take care to tuck it in (or pitch it I guess if it's in a sealed basement). Also on ours there was some stress on the wires. If for either reason the plug is not fully seated inside the socket, it may look fine but the horns will not work or will be intermittent. Make sure the connector is fully inserted.
