I recently purchased a used Chinook class c. Algae-like residue drains from the grey water tank.
What is it and how do I remove it?

As long as it is in the gray and not the fresh water I wouldn't worry about it. But you could kill it off with a bleach solution. Someone here can let you know the ratio. But i would think a cup or 2 of bleach then fill the tank and let set a couple days should do it.

Follow what Terry has said and it should clean it up. Bleach will do many things for you, go to"FIND" above type in bleach, take off the check mark and you will receive them all. Enjoy the forums as you look further  into them.  "007"

To sanitize a fresh water tank the bleach/water ratio is 1/4 cup of bleach to 15 gals. of water. Fill the tank and let it stand for three hours. Then flush out. This should also suffice for the gray tank. One thing I would also recommend is to put in some valve lubricant after using the bleach (it is hard on the rubber seal of the valve). It's a combination of food residue and soap scum and it's quite normal. Many shampoos and soaps (body or dish types) form a pretty ugly looking scum, especially in hard water, but you seldom see it at home caus eyou don't look into the drain line like you do in an RV.
I wouldn't worry about it, but if you want to clean it up some you can flush the tank well (fill with water and dump, several times) and can add some bleach if you like. RV stores often sell a gray water tank deodorant or sanitizer but its nothing but bleach (sodium hypochlorite) anyway, so save your money.

I usually dump about 1/4 cup of bleach down each sink and shower drain about every 3rd or fourth time I dump the tanks. This gets agitated in the tank while moving and cleans it up. Many people complain of oders and think it is the Black tank, when many times it is the grey water tank. The water evaporates from the sink trap and the oder comes out. Bleach will help eliminate this.

NotSoFamous, On a Newmar just make up a dilute bleach solution and get it into the tank with the same hose you use for the winterizing.

Anyone know a way to dump ice in a gray tank like you do for the black tank?
