An Unfortunate and Smelly Incident
Pulled the coach out of the barn last Wednesday night to fill the water tank and pack it for a weekend trip, leaving Thursday morning. It sat out overnight only.
Thursday morning I fired up the diesel pusher and immediately heard some sort of clanking from the fan in the engine. Went out to investigate, and found nothing out of order. The clanking noise stopped.
Being a shop owner, I had the techs investigate the noise before leaving for PA, carefully inspecting the undercarriage of the coach, specifically around the engine. Nothing out of order.
Drove the coach to my destination in PA for the weekend. No problems.
It was a very hot weekend, and Saturday afternoon, a very strong smell began eminating from the rear of the coach. The flies were out in full force. It was so bad I couldn't sleep in the coach that evening.
Checked it out on Saturday, and other than the smell, nothing to be seen from underneath.
Took the coach to my shop Monday morning, and unfortunately we found the carcass of a cat in the fan shroud after a lot of searching. It was ripe.
I have heard of this happening, with the advice to make banging sounds at the rear of the coach before starting the engine to scare any critters out of the engine area. Sounds like it may be good advice.
I don't own any cats. It obviously got into the engine area the 1 night the coach sat outside.
