hubby was an OTR trucker for 23 years and I was on the truck the last 7...we crossed into Canada a lot and going was far easier than coming back "home"....the US agents have been the rudest people we would meet. We had fruit we bought on the US side, went up to deliver our load and came back with the same fruit with the US stickers...Blaine folks took them and I hoped they had a nice lunch. My hubby didn't suffer stupid questions and their inane questions drove him crazy. His temper would get us detained a few times!! If the paperwork wasn't exactly up to specs, that would get us detained; we had passports which helped a lot but they would still ask him "How do you two know each other?" I always cringed because it WAS a stupid question when we are married but he is black and I am white. I always tried to talk him into being calm when we approached the border and to just say yes and no and suffer silently when asked stupid questions (or the same stupid question 3 times, just reworded). Taking runs to Canada paid well but we always dreaded returning. We had our cab looked through but, thankfully, never torn apart. Have seen it done, especially at the Detroit crossing. Always felt badly if a truck was directed to the dock...yikes
