Since an incredible number of people responded to http://www.irv2.com/forums/f84/atwoo...em-104709.html, I thought I'd try another thread in which it has some relevance and might get some helpful response.

Yes, my rig was downwind of our campfire smoke and now I have to find a way to get rid of the odor. Any ideas ??

Did ya already try opening all windows and vents as you drive?

I guess febreze maybe...

Open it up and air it out for a few days if the weather is good for you. Maybe try some "Order Eliminators" they can be found at Wally World in the RV goodies section. They are in a white 5" high plastic container, just remove the seal, put the lid back on and they should help. Also spray your cloth materials and carpet with Frabreez (spell). Hope this helps.

Think about your neighbors too when you have a fire. We were downwind from a site that had an evening get together with fire every night. When we told them that their smoke was coming in our rig they just said to close our windows. Why should we have to close up because they are sitting outside around a fire? In fact closing up the windows and door still didn't stop all of the smell. I think the neighbors were rude and selfish!

If it was a legal camp fire in a fire pit or ring, that makes it a hard call.

Smoke does have some solids in it- that's why the smell can linger sometimes even with airing...
Wiping down your hard surfaces in addition to deodorizing your fabrics will help.
I once bought some kitchen cabinets out of a house that had burned.
I scrubbed them down with a trisodium phosphate/detergent solution and got rid of the very strong after smell of the fire.

For prevention, I wonder if one could use a strategically placed fan if camped next to folks using their fire rings?

Camping aint camping unless you have a fire. I would rather smell wood than those Prestologs. Home depot has a Zep product that eliminates smoke smell. Worked very well after I quit smoking cigs.

Doug, Part of camping is a bon fire...right? I guess BBQ'g is not an acceptable practice either? Your neighbors might not like your diesel smell exhaust or the color of your coach as well!

Why has this world turned into "its all about me and only me"??? What has happened to our society???

Back to the OP's question......fresh air and or the ionic air filters. A few hours of campfire smoke should not have penetrated anything to the point that a few hours of fresh air won't cure the odor.

100% agree. Some people are just too darn sensitive. Of course, the smell of burning juniper or cedar is far more tolerable than the exhaust from a gas or teasel engine.

If I am in a campground that allows campfires, I am going to have a fire. I pay for my site same as everyone else. Maybe campgrounds should have a non-smoking area????
