Are B+ or C MH easier to drive than large Class A?

I would like to know if the C or B+ type motorhomes (28' to 32') are more stable or easier to drive than a 35'+ gas Class A ?

We have a 2011 35QBA Tiffen gas coach that we love and that handles as well as any 12.5' tall gas class A. However, I have developed some vision problems and that means my wife will be doing more of the driving. She is a good MH driver (this is our third MH) but she is not real comfortable with the high and forward seating of the newer Class A models. It seems as though the B+ or C MHs around 30' and 10.5 feet high and normal driving position (behind the front wheels) would be more stable and less affected by truck bow waves and crosswinds. Is this just wishful thinking?

Would love some input about this issue! Thanks!!

I started out with a 30 foot Monaco Montclair Class C and now drive a Thor ACE Class A, about the same length. The ACE is 12 foot tall, the Monaco was about 10.5. I honestly don't think the height makes that much difference. Is the Tiffen built on a Ford F53 chassis? In which case you need to look at the Cheap Handling Fix thread in this forum. A zero cost modification which greatly reduces truck bow waves and improves crosswind stability. You might also consider a steering stabilizer like the Blue Ox TruCenter. I'd be looking at mods to the Tiffen before giving up on a very nice Class A.

Yep Wishful thinking

Although your DW may be more used to Driving a Pickup/Van (ie a class B/C) - no one I know has ever wanted t go back to a B/C after driving a A long enough to learn it and "get used to it".

The ".... high and forward seating of the newer Class A...." gives better visibility and control than the cab in any B/C, the driver can just see out better being higher and more forward. The mirrors are far better in your Tiffen than is on most Bs or Cs and give better visibility rearward, partially due to the fact the the cab of C (and most Bs) is narrower than the body behind the cab. The forward visibility out of your Tiffen is better also - the driver is up higher , can see down the road better, the view is less blocked than out the window of a Pickup/van (B or C). the big windows and big windshield are a real advantage in driving.

In all the MHs I have owned the driving of the 6 class As with "
... high and forward seating ..." have been far far easier than the Pickup style "... behind the front wheels ... " B/C.

It is unfortunate that you are somewhat limited in driving but giving up your 35' A for a 30' B or C will not make the driving for your DW easier. Although it is something different, it is something she can learn and in the end will find it is not worse than driving a B or C - it is easier and safer.

It's just a matter of getting used to it. And when she does she will be a better and safer driver.

Yes , the Tiffin Allegro is built on the F-53 chassis and I have done the "cheap handling fix" and it was a great improvement!

I don't really have a problem with the Allegro handling as such. It's about as good as it's going to get with this chassis and size. The biggest problem we have had on a recent trip (5000 mi.) from Texas and then over to and up the west coast to Washington and then across Wy, etc. was the lack of stability in high cross winds. We were hoping that the smaller profile would be an improvement in this area. We have about 65,000 mi in Class A , including 8 yrs with a DSDP so we are pretty used to driving an A but this gives me some things to think about.

Thanks for your thoughts!
