Auto Park Light came on

Driving east on I-10 towards Jax, FL today and noticed that the Auto Park brake light was on. Not sure when it came on... I pulled off at the next exit. Put it in Park and back in gear to see if it would go out... no luck. Turned off the engine and let it sit for a minute and tried again.. still no luck.

I put it in gear at idle and bumped it into neutral to see if the brake was engaged.. it rolled freely... also did it in reverse. Seemed like the brake was not engaged so I continued on.

Going to check the fluid levels and pump tomorrow but was wondering if anyone out there has experienced anything similar and can give some advice that may save me some time trouble shooting.

Thanks.

Definitely check the fluid level of the park brake reservoir. I think but I could be wrong that there is a fluid level sensor that corresponds to the brake light and fluid level. Let us know what you find.

If the parking brake works like it is should there is a switch under the chassis that indicates when the parking brake lever is pulled back and turns the light out.

Update. Took it to a brake specialist - North Florida Spring and Brake - actually found them through someone in this forum who recommended them, hopefully they know their stuff... couple city fire trucks and vehicles there so hoping that's a good sign.

Anyway, the owner called me the next day and asked if there was something they had to do to move it because the brake wouldn't release... Told him that I hadn't had a problem with it releasing, just that the light would come on and I would hear the pump run every so often. Does it sound like a leak that has finally release enough to cause it not to release? I didn't notice any fluid dripping around the unit.

I'll keep you posted.

Oldusedbear came to the rescue and all is well! It actually went out the Shop where I am having the tires balanced... they are a "spring and brake" shop and they didn't know what was wrong. I went there and fixed it in the lot so they could pull it inside.

Thank You!
