Auto start for coach generator?

Does anyone know if there is anyway you can set up your coach so that if you are in a site hooked up to cg elec. and it goes out that after a time period that the generator will start up to run the coach? Just thinking on these hot day's it could be pretty hot in there when you get back from your lovely outing looking for some AC.

Thanks

This auto start feature comes standard on some higher end coaches I believe and is also available as an after market item. It's on my wish list since we full time with our three dogs and can never really relax when we leave them on a hot day.

You might find more is you search on "auto start"...

Xantrex and Magnum both have Auto Gen Start as a feature on their inverter remote control panels, and Onan offers an aftermarket system for their generators.

...once again... I "missed it by that much!" Glad to hear it works because I really need to get one for peace of mind when leaving the dogs alone.

I believe it was an option, I don't know what it cost when new from the factory. I would like to know. My motorhome bought off the lot did not have the auto start installed. Two days ago I had it installed at the factory. It works great. I have a dog that I worry about leaving and the auto start will help alleviate my worries if the electricity goes off.
While at the Visitor's Center on 30 amp the circuit was tripped because the air and charger were drawing too much. This was before the install so things do happen. Also the auto start is not perfect because a circuit on the generator could pop, run out of fuel, etc. but still reassuring having the auto start.
I got the hard wired version installed. There is a wireless version that you are supposed to easily be able to install yourself but I preferred the hard wired.
Currently in E Section (50 amp) at GNR.

Onan has a plug in autostart that clips right into the generators wireing harness.

I installed the hard wired one from Onan myself and it works very well as long as the dog does not hit the generator kill switch on the dash or bump the battery disconnect in the step well. I am tempted to put a sheild on both those switches like they have in a fighter jet or space capsule.

What's the cost of the wireless version? The hardwired version? I couldn't get the website to load.

Thanks!

The prices are not on the Onan web site you need to contact a dealer for those and the dealers all charge what the local market will bear so it varies. I have seen the wireless advertised for $550 and the wired for $120 including the harness.

Winnebago's are a bit easier than many for installing the hard wired model due to their one place location for the majority of the controls/displays which is why I went with the hard wired version myself. The Onan factory service center in Tampa had the best prices around when I got mine over a year ago so I bought locally and saved on shipping.

Just a caution: The Xantrex AGS panel shown in a previous post works only with selected models of Xantrex inverters. Not even with all the Xantrex.

I had the Onan EC-30 installed at the factory for $875.75. This is Onan brand for the Onan 8000 Quiet Diesel and the price would vary on what wiring is needed, etc. The Module-Auto Generator Start was $381.10, Transformer 120volt/16volt, 15 watts, 15amp circuit breaker $8.20 for the rear power panel, misc. parts. Total 417.97 parts. 4.5 hrs for 2 guys at $450, so total of 875.75 with tax and W.I.T. discount.
Information on Onan at: Cummins Onan RV Generator Energy Command

Gary,

That is incorrect, this Xantrex unit does not require ANY inverter at all...it hooks up to the generator, the batteries, and the A/C thermostat controls only.....There is no connection to any inverter at all

Here is the users manual look at pages 9 & 10....

http://www.altestore.com/mmsolar/oth...art_manual.pdf

NOW THIS ONE

http://www.altestore.com/mmsolar/oth...ners-Guide.pdf

REQUIRES a compatible Xantrex inverter...because of the communication protocols
