Awning Fabric Sun Protection ?

I have replaced the fabric on 2 awning this year and would like to prevent having to do this again soon.

Both awning had rotted or peeled in the hot Arizona sun.

I am seeking a way to attach something to cover the fabric when it is parked to prevent the sun damage.

I know I can't be the only one that has wanted to do this so I thought someone here might have already come up with a workable solution.

Tried a search but did not find anything. Thanks in advance for you thoughts on this.

If you replace the material with a Sunbrella fabric, they will not peel. The sun is pretty vicious and will still eat away at the threads in the seams. Most manufacturers use UV resistant thread, but in the end they also succumb to the suns effects.

If you are going to leave the awnings out in the sun, they are going to need replacing every several years. The Sunbrella fabric with UV threads tend to last longer than other brands of fabric. Lighter colors also tend to last longer than darker colors.

The slide toppers on the MH I bought were almost never exposed to the sun by being opened, yet still needed replacement from the suns exposure to the seams splitting at the roof line.

Use 3M exterior Scotch Guard with UV protectant on the fabric. Awnings with a metal wrap have the advantage of the sun not hitting directly on the fabric when they are fully retracted. Good luck and keep us posted.
