While cleaning my A&E awning, it got away from me as I was rolling it up, and it went up pretty hard, now the lever at the front of the tube that must be moved for up & down does not seem to work, it is very loose. Any suggestions about what may have happened and how to fix will be appreciated.

What's loose. Does it go through the full range of travelor only partly? You may have a broken pin, a broken pawl spring, or the pieces may just be out of alignment not allowing the pawl to release.
My first check would be off a ladder trying to move the release lever by hand to feel what it's doing. Next would be taking the end cap off. A caution, if you're not comfortable dealing with considerable spring tension, see your dealer. Carefrees web site should have the instructions for releasing the spring tension in the roller.
Good luck, Bill

I totally agree with Bill1374. I can tell you from personal experience that removing the end cap can be dangerous due to the spring tension.
I replaced a worn out travel control mechanism in an A&E awning on my 97 Itasca. It was no picnic releasing/resetting the spring tension.

J Stemler, does the awning roll out? Have you tried the ladder and twisting the awning tube to see if you can get it to roll out? You may have to replace the RH torsion spring assmy but let us know what you find and we will go from there.
