Don't the electric awnings have over current protection built in like on the steps? If I'm against a curb, as I often am, and I open the door my steps retract if I hit something. I would think the awning motor would have the same protection. If it does (you could push against the awning and have someone press the button to find out), I would get the locks. My awning has built-in locks, but it's not electric.
