Awnings and slide out covers

According to Winnebago I have Dominic awning and slide. But I swear I saw a tag that said Carefree on it. Any way I need to replace them and one place here in ft worth told me around $900 for the both of them installed. Now my question is were is a good lace to buy and does it matter who made it.

Stone Vos makes an excellent replacement. There is another maker out there but I can't remember their name. It doesn't matter who makes it but, you will have to measure your slide for them to make a replacement.

I had Carefree on a previous coach. Nothing but trouble as was their tech service...I'll never have them again. They are not at all customer friendly.

Unroll your awning and read the label on the roller tube. It will tell you if it is dometic or carefree. Record the part number. it will have the correct length.

If your looking for just fabric $900 is too much. $900 will get you a complete new awning arms and roller tube.

Too much for two awning plus install. We replaced four awnings between 8-16 feet and with shipping we were less then $800. The install is some what easy and you should be able to DIY. We used Stone Vos and had the awnings shipped to Alaska.

Hi John... yes, it does matter who made your awning & slide topper(s) because the two major manufacturers (Dometic/A&E and Carefree of Colorado) use different sized piping/beading at the point the fabric connects to the roller & the RV. So when you order your replacement fabric, you're going to need to know who made your awning/toppers so that it's manufactured correctly.

We replaced the fabric for all three of our Dometic/A&E slide toppers with fabric we bought from Tough Top Awnings (http://toughtopawnings.com). Tyler was really great to work with and really knows his stuff! Plus, they have a bunch of instructional videos on their website that show you how to do the replacement yourself on most of the major slide topper models, which was a HUGE help (Tyler should be able to walk you through any questions you have if your slide topper model isn't covered by one of their videos).

Not to mention that I think you can get a discount on your purchase... check out TheRVgeeks.com... I think they have a discounts page and that might be where I saw the ToughTops discount.

Good luck!

$900 is on the high side of the range but not out of line to pay somebody else to get the fabric and install. Rv techs get about $100/hour and it's going to be at least a three hour job and some parts of it require two people to handle.

The fabric for a topper is probably $150 at online discount prices. Awning material is more dependent on length and type of material, but maybe $200-$250. Dealer retail prices will be higher, though. I would guess at dealer shop prices a 16 foot vinyl awning and 12-14 foot slide topper would run at least $500 for material and another $300 or so for labor.

But that high labor cost plus dealer parts mark-up is why I do my own work whenever practical! If you don't want to do that, get a price quite from a mobile RV tech. He can probably beat that $900 estimate and will come to your door as well.

I highly recommend Stone Vos! Chris is very knowledgeable and has the highest quality fabrics. He was able to provide an exact match in color and pattern for my MH! You may find them more expensive than some other brands, but you get what you pay for!
