Battery Dead

Hi,
I should start off saying that this is my first RV. I have looked all over the internet for a user's manual and can't find one so I'm having to make it up as I go along. If anyone can tell me where to get one I would appreciate it.
I have a '99 Trek Safari Pathmaker Diesel and the other day I tried starting it and all I got was clicking. Someone came out from AAA but it wouldn't start even after running for 15 mins. There are two batteries under the step entering the RV. He told me that the one on the right was for starting and the one on the left was for interior lights and accessories. There is a jumper on the negative side going from the right battery to the left one. I bought a new battery exactly like the old one on the right (starter) and swapped out the bad one. It still clicked so I swapped the good one with the one on the left. I connected the positive side first but when I tried to connect the negative side it sparked so I beed help. If someone can help me that would be great!
Thanks.LClick image for larger version
