Best Motorhome Chassis

Have a friend considering the purchase of a MH. He seems stuck on FL. What options are open for him regarding other chassis superior to FL?

If looking at new then Spartan is about your only other choice but which is "better" is open to interpretation!
We have the Dynomax chassis but they no longer make it. But there are new chassis being built now that look almost the same like Newmars for 2016

Tiffen builds their own Powerglide chassis, so add that to the mix. American Coach takes a FL chassis and modifies it and Entegra modifies a Spartan. Older chassis include Monaco's own Roadmaster, Beaver's own Magnum, and Country Coach who made their own. Many variables, but I am not aware of a really bad one. They all do the job, just some better than others. I think that chassis is way down the list on items you should base this decision on. I would focus first on the quality that is on top of the chassis, and the floorplan and features.

Older units on Gillig were great as well.

First question is what is budget?

The best chassis is the one that is under the coach of your choice. This is a topic similar to gas vs diesel, A vs C, or any other number of choices where the input is totally subjective.

The chassis brand is not important. What is important is to have a chassis that is well-designed to handle the size of the coach. Lower-priced brands often skimp on the chassis, and Freightliner has some really low-end chassis available if the RV maker decides to go cheap. Spartan does not, so the least Spartan is a pretty decent chassis. Low end coach builders don't use them, cause the cheapest Spartan costs more than the cheapest Freightliner. But in the mid-upper range coaches that use decent chassis configurations, there is no significant difference between the two.

So, what your friend should do is consider the wheelbase, GVWR, and other chassis features as part of the total coach package.

My 09 Monaco is on an RR10S Roadmaster chassis. 10 bags full of perfect ride and handling.

On what current chassis? The front axle is one of the many configurable options a coach builder can choose among when ordering a chassis. Or building one himself for a specific coach.

I think the Spartan K3 comes standard with IFS. So does the top end Freigtliner SL. Lesser chassis models typically have it as an option. Tiffin uses a Tuthill IFS on its Powerglide for the Allegro Bus but not the Phaetons. And so on...

Wow! A picture really is worth a thousand words! Thanks for the pictures, the American Coach looks really impressive next to the Tiffin. No problem figuring out which one I'd like under a new coach!
