Our RV travel is generally not only for the destination but for the drive. I enjoy looking around and seeing the country we are passing through. Some of it may seem boring (driving through the desert or across the plains) but if you look you will see interesting rock formations, flowers blooming, grain fields, etc. Just have to look to appreciate.

We notice folks flying by us - and then catch them at the next service station. We often will see the same vehicle pass us three or four times during the day.

While we may not get there as quickly we are not far behind.

We usually get 10.5 pulling 4000lb car & dolly.

Every MH is different, the gearing, the tire size, the motor, you will just have to find the sweet spot for your coach and set the cruse. Enjoy the ride, and relax, your baby will let you know where she wants to run!

Years ago my uncle installed a Sun fuel saver gauge in his Jeep. Just a vac. gauge. Did make a difference in his mpg.
I installed one in my 88 Itasca with 454. I did pick up about 2 mpg by keeping the needle as high as I could in the gauge. Slow starts, backing off going up hill, reduced speed on the level. All this helped and is not hard to do.
I think the town driving was improved the most as the needle was down around 4 or 5 inches of vac the way I was driving. Changed to keeping it up around 9 or 10.
Open the 4 barrel on it is around 1 or so.

I suspect for any modern'ish vehicle it will either be 56mph or 62mph with corresponds to 90kph and 100kph respectively and happens to be the speeds that car companies have to report the mpg of their vehicles at in the EU, so they are all tuned to be as efficient as possible at those set speeds. On some vehicles you can actually feel a dead spot in the power delivery at that speed.

As I said earlier, my best economy is at about 62, which barely keeps me in 6th gear. But if I run a bit higher, say 65-67, it costs me about 0.3-0.4 mpg, so I don't mind doing it if time - or my wilder spirits - makes that seem desirable. When I used to run closer to 70 all the time, it was costing me about 0.9 mpg. Tolerable, but it adds up over time.

We are seldom in a hurry and find we enjoy moderate speeds anyway.

Most people don't put enough miles on a MH to know exactly. On my Peterbilt, pulling a 53' reefer, got enough to know!

At 65 mph, I would get right a 6 mpg. At 58 or so, I would get 7 mpg. At 75, I would get 5 mpg. The newer semis, more aerodynamic, lose a little less at higher speeds.

But, most MH's are like my Pete, NOT very aero!

A diesel burns about .4 lbs. of fuel per hour per horsepower . Find the hp/torque chart for your engine, see the hp rating at the engine rpm you are traveling at & you should be pretty close on fuel consumption rates.

Diesel .34 lbs per hour per HP
Petrol .64 lbs per hour per HP
