Black Mold

What is the best way to remove black mold from the interior of the Coach. I have a Winnebago Ultimate Freedom. The mold is in the wall near the front part of the slide on the driver side.

Bleach will remove it but make sure you have a fan blowing on it and wear gloves along with eye protection.

Many years ago we had a trailer that was closed up completely for several months. Mold grew on several of the walls and we had to use a bleach/water solution to remove it.

I suspect there will be other suggestions but I know for a fact the bleach will work.

First issue is: where is the water coming in?
Second issue is: has it been stopped?
Then you can get to cleaning it up. Removing and replacing the affected area is best, that's what they did in the stick house when we had it re-sheeted and re-roofed last year. I suspect there are commercial cleaners out there that are better than bleach, but bleach will do it too.

As Mr D says, your most urgent need is to stop the water intrusion that led to the mold in the first place.

Black mold is very difficult to eliminate. Depending on how porous the surface is, it may be easy or impossible to get it all. Bleach, vinegar, peroxide or ammonia will kill it on the surface, but the mold usually penetrates very deep into the material and repeated cleansing are often needed to get at the deepest mold spores. Let the biocide soak in if at all possible.

After you get the surface cleaned and the water intrusion stopped, look into either purchasing or renting an ozone generator. I purchased this one Commercial Industrial Ozone Generator Air Purifier Pro Mold Mildew Odor 2013 | eBay
and have been very happy with it. Ozone kills mold plus purifies the air. If you do this though, read the safety precautions.

Is there anything new on the market that will clean mold from the ceiling carpet-like fabric? There is some around two of our light fixtures.

Its generally very difficult to remove mold from thick fabric like carpet. Often best to replace.

Try Folex. That stuff is magic. Many here at IRV2 use it.

First of all, no fan should be used in mold remediation until mold is contained as the spores can become airborne. Non porous materials will only have topical mold and can be treated with a Micro-Ban or any Microbial disinfectant. Porous materials such as drywall or carpet should be removed and replaced if mold has penetrated through. Quite often what appears on the surface has actually not started on the surface but bled through from the back. And yes, finding the source of moisture intrusion is pertinent to a successful outcome. Black mold doesn't happen overnight, it's been wet for some time.

Also, something I learned from dealing with some mold in my sticks and bricks.

Black colored mold is not always the feared 'black mold'. As suggested, wear gloves and mask.

Getting rid of the source of moisture and dehumidifying comes first.
